Happy Saturday! Both my kids had an excellent time at camp last week, and they’ve got another 2-week camp coming up starting Monday. I could get spoiled by all this “me time.” Hahaha! (Which will be spent hard at work finishing a novel and doing some beta reading, not to mention lots of driving.)
Now for the snippet. I’ve been posting from my current WIP, Nightsong. I also post bits of it on Wednesdays for the WIPpet blog hop, which anyone is welcome to join—authors there write in many genres. Today’s bit follows immediately from last week’s.
“Learned your lesson the hard way, eh?” Nate asked, drying his hands.
Del flung his arm out. “Guess it wasn’t meant to be a fairy tale ending.”
Nate snorted and turned away. He would have felt sorry for him, but Del knew the man was married, knew he was closeted, and knew he had no plans to leave his wife or come out; eyes wide open and all that.

Nate has a point. Lots of points, all good ones. And I’d feel sorry for Del except that he doesn’t seem all that hurt.
Ha! Yeah, he’s not all that sad about it. Disappointed their fun is over, perhaps, and regretting not choosing someone else to have that fun with instead.
I can see why Nate isn’t sorry for him. Most fairy tales don’t end with the prince married to someone else and unwilling to ever admit his love for the heroine…or hero.
Nope, fairy tales definitely don’t often end that way. They also usually involve actual love and not just hooking up.
Must have been a sad reality for so many people in years gone by.
It was. In this case…probably closer to a political choice on the part of the other person.
Eyes wide open… and still you fall head over heels. I’m enjoying this ‘miniseries’ of snippets very much!
LOL, no head-over-heels in this case. Del’s being melodramatic, and Nate’s a hopeless romantic who imagines more to situations than they might warrant.
Now I want to know more.

LOL! This is from the very beginning of the novel, but I think what led up to it was probably an app on Del’s phone.

For sure. Though I tend to think Nate’s probably right here.
He may not have such plans but plans sometimes tend to go wrong…or right? You’ve got me intrigued with this snip, I love stories with such heartbreaking moments.
Oh, plans went right in this case–at least from Del’s point of view. He’s not all that upset, just has a flair for the dramatic.
Love this! I’m a sucker for a character with a flair for the dramatic. Can’t wait to see what happens in this story. 🙂
😀 That’s definitely Del—both in his life and on stage. It gets him in trouble sometimes, but he has a good heart.
