Happy Saturday! It’s been a wild, wild week, and the coming ones are no quieter. It’s final performance season, with 3 concerts and 4 recitals coming up. We kicked things off with the annual Stars of Tomorrow gala. This is a showcase of local high school musicals. Below, the cast of BIG FISH back stage at the theater. My older one is on the right, wearing the fishing vest, in the first photo. My younger one is the dark-haired girl in the front row of the second one. (There’s no pic, but my older kid was also in the gala choir for the opening Hamilton-themed production number.)
In other news, I was surprised and thrilled to find out my novel Keeping the Faith is a finalist in the general fiction category for the Bisexual Book Awards. Congratulations to all the finalists!
This week’s snippet is from Keeping the Faith. Here, Micah, the main character, has gone to have dinner with his late spouse’s sister and her family.
Inside the house, it was utter chaos. Langston, the seven-year-old, was chasing Emily, his five-year-old sister, with a stick. He was wearing what looked like a graduation gown, which was so big on him he kept tripping on the hem. Emily didn’t seem bothered by it. She was giggling and playing along with whatever it was. Four-year-old Maya, the quiet one, was coloring at the kitchen table. Micah didn’t see Robbie, but chances were high that with everyone else occupied, he was up to no good. He was a wily one.

Lovely description of the kiddos.
Thanks! Based quite a bit on personal experience, LOL.
This is a truthful insight into the chaos of having kids, great snip.
Thanks! I drew a lot on how my kids were at that age. Heck, even as teens, they’re still a bit like this!
I’m tired just envisioning the scene. Heh… Well done! Best wishes to you, and Happy Writing!
LOL, yeah. I only have two, and they were enough to wear me out at that age.
Oh, the joys of multiple kiddos underfoot. I had three (past tense meaning they’re all grown), and it was often total chaos, so I completely understand this scene.
Yep. I just have the two, and we still have times when everything is chaos. I can only imagine what it would be like if we’d had more.
Great description, bringing to life the kids, offering us glimpses into their personalities with this detailed snapshot.
Lovely pics!
Hahaha…yeah, they’re probably right to be concerned about the unseen silent one. That often means trouble!
Got to watch the wily ones, LOL. Loved this!
I’d be with Robbie, then. 🙂
Congrats on making the finals! And best of luck with all the performances.
Congrats on being a finalist. Boy there’s a lot of kinetic energy in this snippet, well done.
