This recent post from Brian McLaren made my day. Not only am I also a big fan of Weird Al (and I love the movie UHF), it occurred to me that getting Weird Al and Brian McLaren together might produce interesting results.
Stay with me here.
In Love Wins, Rob Bell recalls a painting that hung in his grandmother’s house. In the painting, reproduced in the book, people are walking on a cross that spans a vast chasm. Bell says of the artwork,
It’s as if Thomas Kinkade and Dante were at a party, and one turned to the other sometime after midnight and uttered that classic line “You know, we really should work together sometime . . .” [p.22]
I wonder what would happen if Weird Al and Brian McLaren met at a party? My husband suggested we might end up with some really great parodies of contemporary worship tunes. If so, I’m all for it. Who’s with me?
