I have only a tiny bit of battery left on my computer, thanks to forgetting my power cord when we left for vacation. Oh, well. Anyway, I’ll be using my phone to read and comment on the other WIPpets today.
If you like, you can read my two Christmas shorts, Child’s Play and Noel in Love. Fair warning, the first is about gender identity/expression (though it’s still a children’s story), and the second is about an elf-human relationship (yes, m/m; no, not erotica).
Today’s WIPpet is another snippet about my Hot Nerd™ chemistry teacher and the time he made his friend cry. You get 7 sentences(2 + 4 = 6 and a bonus sentence because it’s Christmas and I feel generous).
It was entertaining how some of the girls swooned, though. He’d heard them whispering in the previous two classes. They would be sorely disappointed to find out that not only did he not care romantically about teenage girls, he had no interest in women of any age. In college, he’d once made his lab partner—a shy, serious young woman—cry. He hadn’t meant to; he’d only intended to let her down gently. It had obviously taken every ounce of courage she had just to talk to him about something other than the atomic weight of rubidium, and then she’d fallen all over herself apologizing after he told her he was gay. Once she’d dried her tears, they’d had a good laugh, and they’d remained fast friends for the rest of their undergrad career.
If you’re not too busy wrapping gifts and putting out cookies for Santa, feel free to check out the other entries or add your own. Holiday jingles to K. L. Schwengel for hosting us. Merry Christmas and happy writing!
K. L. Schwengel
Poor girl. Gets up the nerve to hit on a guy and finds out he’s gay. At least they could still remain good friends.
Hope you’re having a great holiday. Sucks about forgetting your laptop cord. Grrrrrr. But then again, sometimes that’s not a bad thing.
AM Leibowitz
It wasn’t a bad thing at all. I’m home now, well-rested from not working for a week.
Yeah, I crushed on not one but TWO gay guys at a conservative Christian college. We are indeed still friends, though. Third time’s a charm: My husband, who I also met in college, is NOT gay.
AJ
yeah poor girl…I do wonder if she’ll come back later. Maybe if this was a novel-length piece. That could be interesting. =P
AM Leibowitz
I haven’t decided if she’s important enough to bring her back later in the story as part of Ethan’s group of friends. Maybe. This likely won’t ever be novel-length. It’s supposed to be short and sweet.
Samara
At least she could laugh it off and remained friends. I think I would be too embarrassed to even look at the guy again. Then again, knowing me, I’ll still be some way still attractive to him. 😉
AM Leibowitz
See my comment above. I was too shy to actually ask them out, but I was interested in 2 guys during my college days who are gay. I didn’t know it at the time, and they weren’t out until after we all graduated. Also, I hope they’re not reading this, because we’re still friends. LOL!
Kahlil
Heh, yeah that’s a tough place to be, looks like he kind of enjoys that a bit.
AM Leibowitz
He does. I had a grad school professor just like this guy. He really enjoyed the attention, though. I think it’s probably easier to enjoy it when you know your adoring fans are at least legal.

I’m liking that Hot Nerd more and more. Sounds like he handled his lab partner well enough that she could forgive herself and they could b friends.
I think I’m going to like this guy and his story a lot….is there a special someone, or not? Will there be an unveilnig…..?
Once I get the last few scenes of the year written, I hope to hop back and read your stories….
AM Leibowitz
Because it’s a short story, there’s only one more section before I leave it aside. I’m working now on another short and revising a novel, so I’m going with those. I’ll post a bit of the special someone next time I do a WIPpet.
