Welcome to Wednesday! Today, I’m doing penance—I had a huge FAIL last week. I meant to read every single WIPpet, but I never got to it because Stuff Happened. There were some things going on with a few friends, and then I had a planned out-of-town trip. When I got back, I ended up with a pretty serious fibromyalgia crash, so nothing got done that didn’t have to be. Sigh. I promise, this week I have time, so I’ll come visit you all.
In other news, I had a lovely stroll down memory lane. Exactly twenty years ago, I was a summer camp counselor for the first time at the very same camp my kids now attend. I unearthed a picture and showed my kids. Spouse and I were so young our daughter asked, “Which ones are you?” I said, “I’m the one who looks exactly like you.”
On to my WIPpet. I’m only going to be posting one more after this from Anthem. By that point, I’ll have enough written in my new WIP to start sharing it with you. I’m already about 3k in.
Context: Last week, I left you with a bit of Andre listening to Trevor’s sexy voice and not figuring out it was him. This week, Andre may be getting a chance to see him again. Julian is about to give him a job designing a church web site. Guess whose church it is?
WIPmath: 7 + 2 + 2 = 11 paragraphs of dialog
“I’m sorry, but you’re pushing this awfully hard.” Andre leaned back and crossed his arms. “What aren’t you telling me?” he asked.
“You caught me.” Julian relaxed somewhat. “You should really read the file, but I’ll give you some motivation. They’re looking to put their music out to a wider audience, so they need someone to organize everything they do and put it into marketable format. This isn’t just any job. They have a weekly podcast called Discoveries in Worship, and once a month their music director—”
In surprise, Andre put up a hand. “Wait, wait, wait, now. It’s that Harvest Church?”
“Uh…yeah. Why?” Julian frowned.
“I listen to the podcast. Trevor Davidson’s their music director. Him, I like. Did you know their first guest this year was Irina Clay-Jones?”
Julian’s eyes widened. “The gospel singer? Even I like her, and you know how I feel about the stuff they put on Jesus radio.”
“She’s got a great voice,” Andre agreed.
“And she’s—”
“Oh, no you don’t. Do not even say it.”
“—hot as Hades,” Julian finished, grinning when Andre punched his leg.
“Told you not to say it.”
If you enjoyed this, you should definitely check out the other entries here. Feel free to add your own. Just post a bit of your work-in-progress, connect it to the date any way you can, and link up with us. Thanks to K. L. Schwengel for making this space for us. Happy reading and writing!

Hahaha. Oh, I’m loving this. Great snippet
AM Leibowitz
I’m glad! 😀
Eden
These two clearly have that ‘great buds’ chemistry. Wonderful snippet, Amy.
AM Leibowitz
Thanks! They’re one of my favorite buddy teams. I’m going to be sad to say goodbye to them!
Pax Asteriae
Trying very hard not to laugh out loud at your snippet since it’s midnight, but I do love the way they talk to each other and the great friendship they have. They’re both absolutely adorable. 🙂
AM Leibowitz
I love them. Julian was “borrowed” from a flash fiction I wrote for a friend ages ago, so I “know” these guys pretty well at this point. They are definitely the best of friends.

Haha, I like this playfulness. And now we see where the church podcast thing came in. Interesting! I like how he refers to it as Jesus radio.
AM Leibowitz
Yep. Andre’s a man of faith, but Julian is indifferent other than thinking Christian music isn’t that great. I admit some of what’s on the radio isn’t my favorite, but after listening to the pop radio my kids prefer, a lot of that isn’t great either. LOL! Fortunately, I have some friends who periodically send me new “Jesus radio” tunes that are very good.

Ahhh…the suspense…Will they meet again, or not? Will it be as electric, if/when they do?
Nosy minds wanna know…..
AM Leibowitz
Hahaha! Yes, they’ll meet again. That’s next week’s snippet. After that, you’ll all just have to use your imaginations. >:)

I take it Andre, only having listened, is not aware of what this Trevor looks like? That won’t be an awkward business meeting at all…
AM Leibowitz
No, he has no idea. Trevor’s a new-ish hire at the church, so he doesn’t have a staff photo yet. So far, Andre’s only ever heard his voice via podcast, and even that’s only once a month.
Yeah…awkward.

Once again, great interaction between these two. It feels so true to life!
And no apologies needed when Life Happens. 🙂
AM Leibowitz
Thanks! These guys were pretty easy to write–I have friends like that. 🙂
Life sure is unpredictable. I’m glad everyone’s been understanding of the weirdness. LOL!
