Today I’m welcoming Toni Griffin to chat about writing, life, and their current project. Welcome! Let’s talk a little about Determined Mate.

What inspired you to write this story?

Determined Mate was the natural progression after the first one. I wanted a story where once again the main characters had to work for their HEA, but in a different way than Unexpected Mate.

Is there a character you feel especially connected to? Why?

I love Alex, I love that fact that he’s so big and powerful, yet there’s absolutely nothing he can do for his mate in the beginning. He has to stand back and watch others help the man that’s supposed to be his.

What was the hardest part of writing this?

I really wanted to make sure I portrayed the pain Jason went through well. I didn’t want to just shug off what happened to him. Something like that stays with a person for a long time.

Choose a favorite line or short passage. What do you like about it?

“I know up here”—Jason pointed to his head—”that Marcus is okay. He’s your mate and wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. He’s also Alex’s brother, though I’m not ready to think too deeply on that yet.” Brian chuckled at him. Jason scowled at his friend. “But even knowing what I do, it doesn’t stop me from being scared.” Jason took a deep breath before looking Brian in the eyes and whispering, “I don’t want to be like this, Bri. I don’t want to live in fear.”

I’m currently working on Kieran, Book 4 in my Atherton Pack, should be done very shortly. I also have another Holland Brother’s short in the upcoming Mischief Corner Books Anthology, Behind the Uniform.
