Happy Saturday! Only a week and a half until school starts. Can’t decide whether I’m excited or sad. I’ll be happy to get back to regular work hours, but I’ll miss having the kids around. Mostly.
I’m posting another bit of Pink in the Mirror this week. I won’t be around next week, as we’ll be up in the hills visiting family for the long weekend.
Here’s the tagline: Before, Barbara’s goal was to win the county drag race. Now all she wants is to win Dottie’s heart.
Her parents still expected something to come of her courtship with Russ Tate, but Barbara remained unconvinced.
Russ was sweet, no doubt about that. Some boys were polite with the parents and turned into someone else entirely away from prying eyes. Unlike them, Russ was as gentle and innocent alone as he was in front of Barbara’s family.
He was warm and kind, and he never tried to make a move beyond holding her hand in the dark when they sat at the drive-in. Perhaps Barbara should have questioned his disinterest—and hers—more deeply, but she suspected the answers she’d get weren’t ones she wanted.

Wow, beautiful, in character, yet melancholy description!
AM Leibowitz
Aw, thank you! 🙂
Jana Denardo
I liked her observation how people can change in private.
AM Leibowitz
Thanks! I have a lot of experience with religious people behaving differently when away from all the restrictions.

He sounds like a sweetheart. I wonder if their mutual disinterest stems from the same source.
AM Leibowitz
It might. 😉 And that might be cleared up by the end of the story.
Heloise West
Interesting observations 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 Many years of experience.

I have a feeling about Russ. I hope he ends up with a happy ending. 😉 In the meantime I want Barbara to be with Dottie and to be happy.
AM Leibowitz
Heh, I’ll have to write a whole new story for Russ. He does get a “hopeful ever after,” though. 😉 And just wait until you meet Dottie. 😀
