Happy Saturday! Another day of volunteer work. The show is coming together nicely. Elf Jr. has a lot of physical comedy, and my 13yo happens to be pretty good at it. It was really fun watching a bit of the rehearsal.
Don’t be fooled by the blog post title. This week’s snippet is still from last year’s Passing on Faith. When I wrote it, I had no idea how popular a character Cat would be. I’m pretty fond of him myself, but it turns out a lot of other people are too. In this snippet, Cat has discovered one of Micah’s secrets. Errrr…warning for it being quite sweary.
Here’s the snippet:
“Shut up,” Micah muttered. “It’s not funny.”
Cat managed to compose himself. “Oh, no, it really is. This is too good. You write het erotica? The irony of that isn’t lost on me.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Micah crossed his arms.
“Just that most gay romance is written by women. But you’re a gay man writing straight porn. Oh, lord. That’s funny as hell. Do you even know what to do with a vagina?”
“I don’t write porn!” Micah huffed. “It’s romance.” His face grew hot.
“Same difference.”
“Fuck you,” Micah ground out.
Cat’s eyes brightened, and he leered up at Micah. Pitching his voice artificially low, he said, “Really? Will you do it to me with your hot…throbbing…tool?” He curled his tongue a little on the last sound, half-closing his eyes. He licked his lip sensually then opened his eyes and snickered.
Micah glared at him. “I do not write shit like that.”
Sitting up, Cat tilted his head to the side. “Prove it,” he said.
The prequel, Walking by Faith, releases on Nov. 1, 2016. I am putting together a blog tour, so if you are willing to host me around release day, please fill out the form. Maybe we can trade—you can come visit me here.

This is one of my favourite bits of Passing on Faith. 😀 I think it also gives a good hint at why Cat has proved so popular. He’s fun!

😀 Around the time I started this novel, I was posting in a Group That Shall Not Be Named. Someone asked whether readers preferred more masculine men in their books, and about half the comments were some variation on “Femmes are super gross.” I wish I were joking. Anyway, I was mad, so I decided to create one who wasn’t a stereotype. Except Cat’s not exactly a femme, really, but that’s a separate topic. Interestingly, a whole lot of people—even ones who said they don’t usually like femmes—told me they loved Cat.

Love this exchange! I’ll have to move this up my TBR list because it made me LOL. 😀

😀 I’m glad you liked it! I debated between this one and one where he sits in Micah’s lap, ruining his novel by typing things into it.

LOL! Love the dialogue in this! 🙂

😀 Thanks! These two together are something else.

Someone better be careful before he gets stabbed with a pen — or bashed over the head with a laptop!

LOL! Lucky for Cat, Micah’s not the vengeful sort.

This was fun.
