Happy Wednesday! Yesterday was the official book launch, and you can check out this blog post for a list of stops on my virtual tour. It’s been pretty exciting! It’s also NaNoWriMo, and although I have multiple projects going, I’ve decided to stick with just the one for now until I need a break from it.
Keeping the Faith is the last part of Cat and Micah’s story. I had actually started it a couple of months after finishing Passing on Faith, and I intended to only write the two books. I already knew when I was outlining and writing PoF where the story was going. What I didn’t count on was how much people would love Cat and how many would want more of him.
Here’s another little bit from KtF. Micah is having a nice visit with Cat’s sister, LR, and her youngest child.
WIPmath: 16 (for the year) = 1 + 6 = 7 paragraphs.
Micah sat at his sister-in-law’s kitchen table, spooning food into his nephew’s open mouth. About fifty percent of it made it—hopefully—to Robbie’s stomach; the other half landed on his chin, the tray in front of him, and Micah’s hand. Robbie giggled and blew a raspberry, resulting in flecks of pureed squash landing on Micah’s cheek.
LR glanced over. “You really don’t have to do that. He can eat Cheerios until I finish the dishes.”
“I don’t mind.”
Never having wanted his own children, Micah nevertheless loved the ones belonging to other people. Good thing, or he wouldn’t have made a very good teacher. It had surprised him—and Cat—that Micah had taken so readily to babies, though. Robbie was number four and the third unplanned surprise. It tickled Micah how maternal LR had turned out to be. She was a tattooed, pierced bad-ass who held a PhD in Chemistry. Both she and her husband, Jamal, were professors at the community college, and LR was known to be tough on her students. Yet with their own children, both she and Jamal were warm and nurturing. It didn’t seem to bother either of them that they had such a big family, though LR swore Robbie was the last.
Micah finished feeding the baby and stepped to the sink for a cloth to clean himself, Robbie, and anything in a ten-foot radius of the high chair. LR glanced at him and choked on a laugh.
“Got some in your hair,” she said.
“Gross,” Micah remarked. He reached up with the damp cloth and wiped at it.

Cute snippet. I remember those days with Boyo – who am I kidding. I’m still in the middle of those days with him even though he’s two! Thank God for laminate floors.

LOL! Our house has carpeting in every room, even the kitchen. Those days for us involved a whole lot of carpet cleaning.

I love this!! Such a sweet moment.
“…cloth to clean himself, Robbie, and anything in a ten-foot radius of the high chair” Ha! I remember those days, don’t really miss them, but I do remember. 🙂

LOL! Yep. I really like having kids old enough to feed themselves and stay clean doing it.

AM, I like the way you described this family scene. An uncle feeding his nephew and then giving us more information by describing Micah’s feelings of love. Good job.
