Happy Saturday! I’m still recovering from NaNoWriMo. Every year I say I’m never doing it again, and then the next year I do it anyway. Sigh.
I wasn’t sure what to snippet this week, since I don’t have anything new out and haven’t yet started my annual holiday story. So I’m going to snip from last year’s Christmas story, Noel and Silent Night. It can be found in my holiday anthology (S)no(w) Angels. If you’ve read Passing on Faith, you may recall Zayne is Micah’s BFF. A few people had asked for a story about her, so I gave them one which takes place roughly in the same time period as Walking by Faith (8-ish years before PoF). It opens with Micah taking Zayne as his plus-one to a staff holiday party to meet one of his coworkers. (Micah speaks first here.)
“It’s just a Christmas party. Wear red and call it a night.”
Zayne studied him. Bringing up the event evoked in her the desire to ask questions she probably shouldn’t, even though Micah wouldn’t be angry with her anymore—not after all they years they’d known each other. Things like will there be alcohol and can you stay sober enough to drive us home and are you going to ditch me with your friend for a drunken fuck in the bathroom. She’d asked enough times in the past to know he would be honest with her.

LOL. Those questions tell us a lot about Micah! 🙂
AM Leibowitz
They do indeed. Lucky for Zayne, she’ll be satisfied with his answers…this time.
Jana Denardo
Sounds like he’s left her in a lurch more than once.
AM Leibowitz
He has, but mostly the things she wants to ask about are things she’s had to rescue him from when she’s not with him.
K.S. Trenten
Ouch! I can emphasize with Zayne only too keenly!
AM Leibowitz
Yep. Fortunately, it’s not a one-way street. Micah’s done his share of looking out for her, too.
Charley Descoteaux
Good for Zayne–it’s not easy to recognize when you don’t really want to ask a question. I still have to remind myself… er, occasionally. 🙂
AM Leibowitz
LOL, definitely! Me too.

Doesn’t sound like a situation I’d want to be involved in.
AM Leibowitz
Zayne has her reasons for wanting to be involved, but I agree–it’s not an easy situation.
