Happy Saturday! Hope everyone is well. In two days, my latest novel, Nightsong, is out. Linky in the sidebar, in case anyone is interested. Also, I’m doing a giveaway! You can enter after the snippet.
Nightsong picks up where Anthem (book 1 in the series) left off. I’m currently writing book 3. Last week, I posted a bit from Anthem to introduce you to the complicated relationship between Nate and Trevor. Nate is one of the MCs in Nightsong, and that’s the one I’ll be sharing from for a while.
These two had somewhat of a falling out in Anthem. It was mostly Nate’s doing, but Trevor (due to his lack of good communication skills) wasn’t blameless. Here, they’re trying to put their friendship back in order.
Trevor turned to Nate. “Lunch?”
“Sounds good.” As they walked, Nate asked, “How’s everything?” He didn’t know how to convey I’m sorry for being a fuck-up and I miss hanging out with you. He supposed he could have said those things, but they sounded needy and pathetic in his head.
And here’s the giveaway!

Just sticking to surface stuff instead of what really needs to be said so realistic. Love his thoughts, too.
AM Leibowitz
Yeah, these two are not great at expressing what’s underneath, at least not until they really need to.
Debbie McGowan
This is a prime example of that thing you do better than anyone else I’ve read – no spoilers/read in any order. This has a totally different feel to it now I’ve read Anthem. It’s a bit like getting two stories for the price of one!
AM Leibowitz
😀 That was the goal, although there’s an ongoing plot strand as well. I’m struggling a bit with this in the next one because it really will have spoilers for certain things from Nightsong. Although, I think Nightsong does have at least one spoilery thing in it about the “mystery” regarding Trevor’s inadvertent public coming out.

Love the snippet, love the cover, checking out Anthem! 🙂

Awesome! Feel free to join in the giveaway too, since I’ve got two copies of the next book to spare. 🙂

I think in this case, being needy might help patch things up with his friend. I hope they work it out.
AM Leibowitz
They’re going to need some time. Stuff that happened between them was kind of big. But they’ll be all right. Friendship needs a HEA too, right. 🙂

Damn, our minds always get in the way of our hearts. Great snippet, A.M. 🙂
AM Leibowitz
For sure! Glad you liked it. 🙂

The feels in this bit. Good snippet.
AM Leibowitz
Thank you! <3
Addison Albright
Great snippet. It’s so real! Too often we just want to sweep whatever was said/done under the rug like it never happened. 🙂
JL Merrow
Aw, bless! 🙂

“He didn’t know how to convey I’m sorry for being a fuck-up and I miss hanging out with you. He supposed he could have said those things, but they sounded needy and pathetic in his head.”
Great snippet! I’ve certainly been there. Sigh.
AM Leibowitz
Thank you, and yep. I’ve been there too. I’m less good at saying these things than my spouse is.

Loved this! I totally empathize…
AM Leibowitz
Yeah, me too.

Yes, heave forbid he admits to needing something… love that snip. There’s so many ways to ruin a good friendship and it’s far too easy to do.
AM Leibowitz
Yes, exactly. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to mend one, too.
Antonia Aquilante
Great snippet. It feels very real.

Thank you!
