Happy Saturday! Release day for Nightsong went well. I was surprised and pleased that it got some nice reviews. Meanwhile, I’m continuing to plug away at the next book in the series, Drumbeat. I’m currently posting from that on Wednesdays, if you feel like checking those out. The WIPpet Wednesday blog hop is open to anyone, so feel free to join us if you’d like to share from your WIP. There’s also a FB group!
This week, I’m snipping again from Nightsong. Here’s our other MC this time. Israel “Izzy” Kaplan is an EMT who moonlights as a drag queen performing mostly show tunes. In this bit, he’s talking to his partner about a call they received. (It’s based on a real event—my father-in-law once had a very similar transport.) Six lines rather than 6 sentences because it makes more sense.
Val huffed. “Yeah, okay. Get to the point already.”
“We’re supposed to go”—he laughed again—“pick up”—another snort—“a skeleton.”
Val’s face registered confusion. “Someone’s been dead a long time.”
“A real long time,” Izzy agreed. “On the order of millions of years.”
“Uh…”
He guffawed again. “We have to transport a fucking dinosaur. That’s not a metaphor.”
Rainbow Snippets is a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ authors, readers, and bloggers to share 6 sentences each week from a work of fiction—published or in-progress—or a book recommendation. Feel free to join in!

EMTs to transport a dinosaur? That’s… different. LOL
My father-in-law transported a mummy. It’s because they felt it was a safer way to get to the hospital for C-T scans than via shipment. It’s actually not too unusual, but they usually use transport-only vehicles unless the company is too small.
Hilarious. A very strange patient indeed. I don’t think CPR is going to work on this one
No, not at all! LOL.
Cool. 🙂 At least they don’t have to worry about life support!
Ha! Well, that’s true. 🙂
LOL! Congrats on your release!
Thank you! 😀
Ah, Izzy and Val. I love those two. Val story at some point? 😉
Yes! Val’s was one of the ones I wanted to write after I get through Jamie’s and Mack’s. Actually, I also have something in mind (just notes for now) on Rocco, Del, Jagathi, and a minor character from another book who I’m sending to Boston. 🙂 Yeah…I’m a bit ambitious.
Yay! Nothing wrong with ambition. 😀 But Rocco… >.< You know I'm going to be trying to guess that minor character from another book.
Oh, it’s not a secret or anything. Just that the character didn’t appear much in it. They’re the younger sibling of a side character in An Act of Devotion.
As for Rocco, you know I can’t resist redeeming characters. Heck, I even *almost* managed it with Elijah. Rocco’s nowhere near that evil.
*boggles*
LOL!
lol. And just how big is this dinosaur?
I’ll just leave it up to the imagination. 😉
Awesomesauce! I’d volunteer! Great snippet, A.M. 🙂
😀 Yeah, I think it would be fun.
Now I just want to know more about the transport!
Maybe I’ll post a bit more of that next time. 🙂
Duuuuuuuude…I wish I could have been there to see the skeleton! 😀
