Today I’m welcoming C.H. Clepitt to the blog to talk about life, writing, and OMG THIS TOTALLY AMAZING AND HILARIOUS BOOK which you can read for FREE this weekend. Yes, really. Check the links after the interview. You can also read my review here.
Interview
What do you wish people knew about your books or characters?
I guess I just wish people knew about them! I mean, I am certain that if people knew about them, they would want to read them.
We should’ve invited them along for the interview. Maybe next time. For now, tell us a bit about them.
I write underrepresented characters, and I write them well (that’s not me being big headed, but, you know, we have to believe in our writing to publish it in the first place, right?).
Heck, yeah! So how did you decide what to write?
I write what I would like to read, and I can’t be the only one. If only I knew how to reach those other readers, I guess I’d win…
I think that’s the million dollar question right there, how to find those other readers. Tell us about this story. Did it go as planned?
Not even a little bit! I intended for it to be a more traditional apocalypse spoof.
I think “apocalypse spoof” should be a whole genre on Amazon. What was supposed to happen in the story?
Kerry was supposed to meet the handsome stranger, go on an adventure, possibly with zombies.
Yeah, that sounds pretty traditional so far. Where did it veer off course?
She turned out finding a badger spirit guide and falling in love with the handsome stranger’s wife… Characters, eh? My favourite quote from a beta is “nice badger insertion”, I’m gunna have that printed on a t-shirt.
I would buy that shirt. Since you obviously didn’t have the shirt while writing, what did you do instead to immerse yourself in the story?
I sat in a coffee shop and waited for an apocalypse.
And? Don’t leave us hanging.
There wasn’t one, but there was coffee, but it was OK…
Coffee as a story immersion technique. Got it. Do I have that right?
I actually don’t need to do a lot to immerse myself in a story, once my brain takes over it just happens, although Heels was the first “proper” book I’d written in 3 years, so launching it was kind of a big deal for me.
It’s a really fun story, especially the badger. Thanks for subjecting yourself to my questions and letting folks have a peek at your inner workings. Stop by any time to let us know about other projects and new releases!

Author: C.H. Clepitt
Length: 112 pages
Published: May 26, 2016
Category: fiction
Genre: humor
Synopsis
Is anyone truly prepared for the apocalypse?
Well, Kerry certainly isn’t, and she fairly quickly discovers that looking sharp in a business suit and heels is not going to help anyone when there’s an apocalypse, with possible zombies!
Together with a super spy, an ex girl guide and a personal trainer with manly foraging skills, Kerry must battle terrifying religious cults, rich people and her personal demons, all whilst having the daily chore of deciding what to wear.
This is a laugh out loud comedy with romance, heart and talking badgers, and is not to be missed.
What would you wear to the apocalypse? #IWoreHeels

About the Author
C H Clepitt has a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of the West of England. As her Bachelor’s Degree was in Drama, and her Master’s Dissertation focused on little known 18th Century playwright Susannah Centlivre, Clepitt’s novels are extremely dialogue driven, and it has often been observed that they would translate well to the screen.
Since graduating in 2007, she gained experience in community and music journalism, before establishing satirical news website, Newsnibbles in 2010. In 2011 she published her first book, A Reason to Stay, which follows the adventures of disillusioned retail manager, Stephen, as he is thrust into village life and the world of AmDram. Clepitt’s feminist fantasy, The Book of Abisan not only crosses worlds, but confuses genres, and has been described as a crime drama with magic. She has often said that she doesn’t like the way that choosing a genre forces you to put your book into a specific little box, and instead she prefers to distort the readers’ expectations and keep them guessing. Her 2016 work, I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse does just that, as just like the characters, the readers won’t know what’s going on in this laugh out loud satirical scifi.
