Happy Saturday! The school year is over, along with most of the rehearsals, concerts, and recitals. Life is settling into a happy, relaxed summer schedule.
You can now find me on Queeromance Ink. Also, if you’re interested in drummers with a checkered past, sexy deaf Irish dancers, and a blend of literary fiction and hurt/comfort romance, then you can preorder my upcoming novel Drumbeat. This is the third part of my Notes from Boston series.
Today’s snippet is from Leaps of Faith, my collection of short stories in the same setting as my Faithfully Yours series. It’s on sale at Amazon for 99 cents during Pride season.
This scene is taken from “Noel and Silent Night,” in which Zayne is trying to build a relationship with the woman of her dreams while also caring for her mentally ill best friend. Here, she’s afraid her new girlfriend might not want that kind of baggage.
“Are you sure you want a next time?” Zayne asked. “This is my life. I live alone, I do nails at a salon, and I take care of my drunk, suicidal friend. You didn’t sign up for any of this.”
“And you didn’t sign up for a formerly sheltered, recently out woman with children and a pathetic excuse of an ex husband. No one ever ‘signs up for’ anything in a relationship, sweetheart.”
Rainbow Snippets is a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ authors, readers, and bloggers to share 6 sentences each week from a work of fiction—published or in-progress—or a book recommendation. Feel free to join in!

Very wise woman there. Zayne should listen to her, preferably from a pillow 😀 Lovely chemistry there
Addison Albright
Yup! And everybody had baggage of one kind or another. 😏

For some odd reason this reminds me of a scene in the BBC show, Coupling. Steve and Susan are trying to go on a date and other people show up. Steven says something along the lines of “Your ex, my ex, your best friend, my best friend. All relationships have baggage; we might as well take ours to dinner.”

(Oops! Found the clip. It’s Susan that says it.)

I so love their relationship. It reminds me, in a way, of mine with Anna. She didn’t sign up for three kids and an ex from hell, but she dove right in.
